Course description:
This emphasis is designed to prepare students to address changes that are occurring in metropolitan and fringe areas, as well as changes that are occurring in other types of communities located in non-metropolitan areas. Small coastal and other natural resource based communities must carefully weigh impacts of development against protection and conservation of environmental qualities. Graduates of the community development program will be able to apply their conceptual, analytical, and management skills to such issues involving infrastructure development, leadership, economic growth, youth development, poverty, welfare-to-work, water quality, land use, and other issues involving mobilization and collaboration with diverse community groups. Community development students can look forward to careers in various levels of government and their programs, Cooperative Extension, and regional planning organizations.
Entry requirements:
Applicant should have ranked in the top quarter of their graduating class, and must achieve a combined SAT Math and SAT Critical Reading score of at least 1300 with a test score of at least 600 in each of these components; or achieve a composite ACT score of at least 30 with a test score of at least 27 in ACT Math and ACT English. Students must take the writing component of the SAT and/or ACT in order for the test score to be considered, and have successfully taken all recommended coursework.

Applicant can submit the application form through online with a nonrefundable $75 application fee. The application fee may be paid by check, money order or approved credit card and applicants who wish to pay by credit card may do so as part of the online application. They should send official transcripts of all official senior secondary or high school transcripts according to the educational system of their country (generally the last three to four years of secondary education; letters of recommendation and statement of purpose directly to International Graduate Admissions Processing, Office of Admissions and Records, Texas A and M University, P.O. They are required to submit GRE or GMAT scores; and applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit proof of English proficiency, which is satisfied by: a minimum TOEFL score (from a test date within two years) of 50 for paper-based testing (p-BT), 213 computer-based testing (c-BT), 80 internet-based testing (i-BT), or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 overall band, or completing all years of a Bachelor's degree or higher at a U.S. accredited university.
