- University Of Nebraska Medical Center, USA
- PhD Pharmaceutical Sciences
The program mainly focuses on research. The pharmaceutical sciences department in the college is well reputed throughout United States. The admissions here as very limited and highly selective, you should be exceptional in your scores and academics to get in here.
As a normal procedure for admission in US, an international student needs to take both GRE and TOEFL. I took both of these tests. I prepared along with my friends without any coaching assistance. I guess one can take the best assistance with the resources available on internet. As a normal requirement I need F-1 visa to be studying here. Speaking frankly my visa interview was a cakewalk, as I have financial assistance from the university. Getting to any place in US is easy as they are well connected. I travelled through KLM airways. They do not offer any kind of student fare. I booked my ticket a bit late due to some personal problems and so paid a bit high amount. Probably if you can book tickets early the fare doesnt cost a lot. The port of entry I came in through was Detroit. Many different airlines offer different port of entrees to Omaha (place I am in). From Detroit I flew to Omaha. The college is about 15 mins drive from airport and one of my cousins over here came to receive me. I havent contacted the school for any travel arrangements. Excess baggage was not allowed. If I am not wrong the rules have changed now and excess baggage is no more allowed. I did not face any problems with immigration.
The university offers tuition waivers and the stipends depend on the grants your professor has. I have financial assistance from the university.
The program mainly focuses on research. As I am in PhD, or for anyone interested in PhD it depends on their interests how they like the professors. Each professor has his own lab and group. The pharmaceutical sciences department in the college is well reputed throughout United States. The college doesnt take students into masters program, though they do offer it.
I am living in off campus accommodation sharing with one of my seniors over here. University provides student housing and its a bit costly. Seminar halls are very good and the university has the best research facilities. We have a good student life center with all gym and game facilities, but I should say outdoor sports are limited. Omaha is the biggest city in the state of Nebraska. The social life seems calm and good. The living expenses are also limited and it is a good place for student to start with. Unfortunately there is no international student society in the college. Night life is good, but as all of us know it is never safe in this country.
Even though the college doesnt offer any placement cell kind of thing, as PhD graduates we do have excellent job prospects. I can surely say there is no student who has not got a job after PhD here.
